Perks

Hmm. Perhaps I shouldn't have dismissed a career as a trial lawyer out of hand.

On the other hand, one worries about being disowned for such a thing ;)

What was that thing about how there are two Americas and Edwards' home takes up most of one of them?..

And would the 'rents really disown you for making your fortune off of faulty door-handles or something?

Perhaps not, but if this were me, I don't think they'd be terribly proud or terribly impressed, regardless of the size and cost of my houses: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/31/politics/campaign/31EDWA.html?ex=1171352575&ei=1&en=ac47ba04735257f3. The guy is gifted at what he does, I grant you.

You know, for the various dollar figures bandied about in the above-cited articles, you could feed, house, and fund rather a number of grad students. I certainly hope some local university has come to the same realization...

Would it be seen as the intellectual equivalent of street-walking?

(Actually, real street-walking often does much less damage to a society... :-))

It might...more than that, it would probably be seen as being dishonest and not right, despite being legal. Perhaps this assessment is somewhat skewed by hindsight, especially concerning cystic fibrosis. Even so, it's not like there weren't questions at the time as to how much delivery really contributed as a cause of the condition....

Perhaps it comes down to the fact that everything I have gleaned thus far from the public arena regarding his career and documented words and actions fails to indicate to me the conduct of a genuine and upright man. That's simply my assessment, and I don't want it misconstrued as a personal attack--if I want to out and out personally attack someone, I'll let y'all know! Nevertheless, genuineness and uprightness are two qualities of which I would at least like to see a little in a candidate...Particularly if the candidate has aspirations (delusions?) of being the Leader of the Free World and all.

Boy was that a long-winded response!

Uprightness? Apparently I should eschew writing or thinking after 9pm or so. Methinks I meant "integrity."
